View Full Version : On/Off throttle transition not smooth

If i'm driving, especially with the A/C on (this amplifies it, but its just as bad w/out it on) and say I'm in 3'd, and not pushing it hard, and lightly/smoothly let off the gas. Instead of transitioning from throttle to no throttle smoothly (IE idle), it will go from slowing down a little bit, then jerk when the pedal is out the entire way, no matter how slowly I let off the gas.
It's annoying and my throttle cable is adjusted properly, but I do not know how the throttle itself is. Any Idea's?

Lube is the first thing that comes to my mind. Something is sticking somewhere. I'm not a big car tech guy, though.....

No it's something to do with fuel delivery between on throttle and idle (remember, when you take your foot off the pedal, even if it's spinning at 4000 RPM... it's using the idle control unit to control the engine from that point.

yeah i noticed i was having the same problem, that was only if i let up on the gas quickly and i was in 1st 2nd or 3rd and i was below 3000 rpm

maybe its the TPS (throttle position sensor). i had a problem with mine, so i sorta disabled it......

Uhhh... I'm pretty sure you cant disable it becuase your fuel pump/injector relay wouldn't allow more gas in the engine.

Maybe its TPS (Toilet Paper Sensor), it is bad and thinks you are using too much toilet paper therefore you are scared so it tries to slow the car down faster.

hence the 'sorta'. I was having a problem with the computer, where when i let off the gas pedal, the rpms would drop too much and then come back. also there was a loping at idle, so i turned up the idle screw a little bit so it wouldnt shut off the fuel when it came to idle. fixed all my problems......

the loping at idle is called hunting, the idle control is trying to find the correct speed, usually caused from crud buildup in the idle control itself.... take it out and clean it with brake cleaner, another cause is idle screw open too much, try closing the screw a little after cleaning the idle control unit.... a proper setting is when the idle control is totally controling the speed
