Every time i start my car now, I get a check engine light and, even though it idles decent, when I go to give it gas, even Wide open throttle, the car doesnt do anything except it will accelerate VERY slowly and very unsmooth for about 10 or 20 seconds... After that it will run absolutely fine.

I had the hood up obviously wandering WTF is this check engine light for... and when I would have the car off and turn it to run (NOT starting it) a relay clicks 3 times that I have never heard before... could this relay be effecting the fuel flow to my cylinders? I THINK there is a relay that controls the difference between any throttle, and idle (since when you use the pedal there is a throttle position sensor to measure the fuel -- idle it's a computer adjustment)

Anyone have a clue? Or do you think I pinpointed my problem?

i think you need to see why the check engine light is on...... try the turn the key on and pump the accelerator 5 times and see if it gives you a code

will that work on an e30?

Went out to check it -- bently just had you check the light by turning the key to the on position and counting the blinks.

I got 2 blinks, for the oxygen sensor.

The relay making the odd clicking is in this box,

the bently manual says that the error code could be a faulty oxygen sensor OR could be caused by a bad fuel/air mixture, and since the car runs 100% the rest of the time, I'm very sure it's probably this relay causing the car to run bad for the first 10 or 20 seconds, but who knows.

First i want to test the relay -- how much will this relay be to replace if it is bad??

I would think that if the fuel pump relay is bad, the thing wouldn't run at all. I think a bad fuel pump relay doesn't quite explain why the car runs badly for the first 10-20 seconds and then is fine after that. When relays go, they typically go and die completely.

relays are usually cheap..... most are generic in german cars..... the japs make special terminals so you have to get most them from the dealer....... try swapping the relay with a different one with the same number of terminals.....

Well today no check engine light and no hesitation -- shitty idle though (which is probably from the idle control unit.)

That's why I'm thinking that the oxygen sensor is fine becuase it's putting out a good fluctuating current (as the bently manual says it should).
