Thinking about buying one of those pressure bleeding thingies so I can bleed my brakes on my own...

Good/bad idea?

Recommendations?

Also, I was thinking about replacing the stock brake lines with those teflon/stainless stell braid ones...

Good/bad idea?

Recommendations?

Thanks for your help. :-)

Bleeding brakes = easy. Just read up how to do it online. Do it if you think you need it.

Non-rubber brake lines = bad idea for street use.

I could never justify spending the $$ on one of those pressure/vaccum bleeding pumps.

Girlfriends make excellent pedal-pushing devices.

However, if you don't have access to one, then you may have to buy a pump.

I've done it in the past... I just need another person to help, which I don't always have available.

Thus the need for a thingy. :-)

True.

But aren't they ultimately more expensive that the bleeding pumps? ;-)

Working on it. :-)

Well, what you CAN do is follow these instructions.

http://www.bmw-m.net/TechProc/bleeder.htm

You dont even really need 2 people - you can use a brake bleeder with a small hose, but just make sure the hose and catch container is HIGHER up than the brake system, so you wont get bubbles going back in.

In fact bmw factory in structions for bleeding brakes is using the pressurized cap AND pedal method at the same time.

Thanks for the link... Never underestimate the creativity of people... :-D

Um, so what about the ss brake lines? Overkill? Overrated? Both?

Both. They are ment for track use only where extreme temperatures and debris can be a problem.

But they have a tendency for the teflon to rub against the outter stainless steel, which will rupture the line. they are ment for short time use.

Wow. Good information to know. [Thumbs U]

Didn't even think about the stainless steel braid damaging the very tubing it's meant to protect.

Guess I'll just inspect and flush my lines.
