328i 99 e46 been to dealer they said everything is fine i did check codes(none) !! idle is about 700 rpm when i change gears from p to n or d idle will jump up and down also when its in idle and i try to close window ( when windows are up ) idle will go up and down too not too much but sometimes i think its close to stall its reallly gettting me pissseeddd !! i have no idea what to do next also i can see when i put my ac on radio high beam it will do the same thing i checked my battery and its 12.5 v and with engine running about 14.6 v with no load and with load is 13.5v i was thinking of maybe voltage regulator what you guys think ?? i dont think its icv and i had vanos unit replaced with newone already is there anything else i can check ?? [Doh]

It sure does sound like the voltage regulator or the alternator itself might be bad. If you can work on the car yourself and it's out of warranty - the voltage regulator should be a fairly simple repair... shouldn't cost more than $70 total. Do your headlights dim a decent amount when putting the windows down?

I think the ignition design of the car - having individual coil's - can also lead to problems.

If you have someone else to do it, if they are truthful it shouldnt take more than 1 labor hour to have the regulator replaced.

headlights dim a little bit when i press the switch for windows i think ill go with voltage regulator and change that myself do you know where can i find reulator on the web to my car ??

I'm pretty sure the regulator is inside of the alt. You'll probably have to buy a whole new alt.

HMMMMMMMM NOT A WHOLE ALT JUST VOLTAGE REGULATOR I THINK YOU CAN TAKE IT OUT AND GET JUST THAT PART NEW

I'm pretty sure the regulator is inside of the alt. You'll probably have to buy a whole new alt.
Nope it's replaceable and very easy to replace too.

Not sure where you can get one, check autohausaz.com...they are the best ever.

OK HAVE DONE IT TODAY REPLACED VOLTAGE REGULATOR ITS BETTER NOW BUT STILL DROOPS A LITTLE BIT WHEN TURNING ON OR OFF AC WINDOWS ITP I GUESS THATS HOW IT WORKS SOMEHOW I DIDINT SEE IT BEFORE
It'll drop when turning the a/c on becuase the air compressor turns on and has a mechanical power draw on the motor.

ITS BETTER THEN BEFORE ID SAY BUT IF ITS IN PARKING ( P ) AND U STEP ON GAS AND LET IT GO A FEW TIMES ILL DROOP TO 500 RPMS U CAN HEAR WRRRRRR LOL THIS CAR IS KILLING ME SOMETIMES LOL
